Compliance: Required as indicated, unless previously accomplished. To assure proper operation of the passenger emergency oxygen system, accomplish the following: A. For model DC-10-10 and -30 series airplanes, within 90 days after December 22, 1988 (the effective date of Amendment 39-6065), accomplish the following: 1. Remove and inspect all 3-man oxygen generators, Scott Aviation Part Number 801386-06, within the Passenger Service Unit (PSU) of the seat. Replace, prior to further flight, any generator showing evidence of food tray latch and cotter pin contact and wear on the canister. 2. Remove existing brackets and install new bracket assemblies, Jepson-Burns Part Number 42703001, in accordance with the Implementation Instructions of Jepson-Burns Service Bulletin Number 25-20-618, dated June 10, 1987. B. For Model DC-10-40 and KC-10A (Military) series airplanes, within 90 days after the effective date of this amendment, accomplish the following: 1. Remove and inspect all 3-man oxygen generators, Scott Aviation Part Number 801386-06, within the Passenger Service Unit (PSU) of the seat. Replace, prior to further flight, any generator showing evidence of food tray latch and cotter pin contact and wear on the canister. 2. Remove existing brackets and install new bracket assemblies, Jepson-Burns Part Number 42703001, in accordance with the Implementation Instructions of Jepson-Burns Service Bulletin Number 25-20-618, dated June 10, 1987. C. An alternate means of compliance or adjustment of the compliance time, which provides an acceptable level of safety, may be used when approved by the Manager, Los Angeles Aircraft Certification Office, FAA, Northwest Mountain Region. NOTE: The request should be forwarded through an FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector (PMI), who will either concur or comment and then send it to the Manager, Los Angeles Aircraft Certification Office. D. Special flight permits may be issued in accordance with FAR 21.197 and 21.199 to operate airplanes to a base in order to comply with the requirements of this AD. All persons effected by this directive who have not already received the appropriate service documents from the manufacturer may obtain copies upon request to the Jepson-Burns Corporation, 1455 Fairchild Road, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105-4588. These documents may be examined at the FAA, Northwest Mountain Region, Transport Airplane Directorate, 17900 Pacific Highway South, Seattle, Washington or the Los Angeles Aircraft Certification Office, 3229 East Spring Street, Long Beach, California.
