88-12-12 CESSNA: Amendment 39-5941. Applies to all serial numbers of Models 177RG and F177RG airplanes certificated in any category.

Compliance: Required within the next 75 hours time in service after the effective date of this AD, unless already accomplished.

To prevent power loss or engine stoppage due to water contamination of the fuel system, accomplish the following:

(a) Modify the airplane fuel system using one of the options in subparagraphs (a)(1), (a)(2), or (a)(3) below:

(1) Install a fuel strainer quick drain control in accordance with STC SA2344CE or SA2345CE.
NOTE 1: These STCs are owned by Air Plains, Inc., P.O. Box 541, Wellington, Kansas 67152, telephone (316) 326-8581.

(2) Install a fuel strainer quick drain control in accordance with STC SA2335CE or SA2336CE.
NOTE 2: These STCs are owned by Cessna Pilots Association, Inc., Wichita Mid- Continent Airport, 2120 Airport Road, P.O. Box 12948, Wichita, Kansas 67277, telephone (316) 946-4777.

(3) Install a fuel strainer quick drain control by using equivalent aircraft standard hardware.
NOTE 3: The FAA has received reports of corrosion inside the fuel strainer bowl caused by undrained water. A check of the condition of the fuel strainer and bowl can be made during installation of the fuel strainer quick drain control.

(b) Airplanes may be flown in accordance with FAR 21.197 to a location where this AD may be accomplished.

(c) An equivalent means of compliance with this AD may be used, if approved by the Manager, Wichita Aircraft Certification Office, Federal Aviation Administration, 1801 Airport Road, Room 100, Mid-Continent Airport, Wichita, Kansas 67209.

All persons affected by this AD may obtain copies of the document(s) referred to herein upon request to: Cessna Pilots Association Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) SA2335CE and SA2336CE information may be obtained from Mr. John Frank, Editor Cessna Pilots Association, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, 2120 Airport Road, P.O. Box 12948, Wichita, Kansas 67277, telephone (316) 946-4777. Air Plains Inc. STCs SA2344CE and SA2345CE information may be obtained from Mr. Kent McIntyre, Vice President, Air Plains, Inc., P.O. Box 541, Wellington, Kansas 67152, telephone (316) 326-8581. These documents may also be examined at FAA, Office of the Regional Counsel, Room 1558, 601 East 12th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64106.

This amendment, 39-5941, becomes effective on July 5, 1988.
